Introducing WaterStart's Newest Board Members
David Lynch – Co-Founder & CEO of Klir
David Lynch is the Co-Founder & CEO of Klir, the groundbreaking operating system for water that empowers utilities with robust analytics derived from raw data. Equipped with a first-of-its-kind generative AI tool powered through Microsoft’s ChatGPT4 technology, Klir’s Comply platform can easily search data and permits to help water utilities make insightful, data-driven decisions.
Prior to founding Klir, David worked with the Irish Environmental Protection Agency, represented Ireland at European Commission working groups and in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, and in 2020 participated in Y Combinator, one of the most highly regarded and successful startup accelerators in Silicon Valley.
With his background in data science and a passion for sustainability, David has played a pivotal role in driving innovation within the water sector. His extensive experience and dedication align perfectly with WaterStart’s mission to create lasting solutions for water management.

James Dunning – CEO of Syrinix Limited
From 2010 to 2023, James was the CEO of Syrinix Limited, a globally recognized leader in high-resolution water network monitoring. James led the company’s growth from its R&D base in the UK to its being an internationally recognized leader in high-resolution water network monitoring, with customers literally across the world, and Syrinix subsequently being acquired by Badger Meter Inc.
Starting his career as a lawyer, James has subsequently worked in senior roles in the electricity, renewables, gas, and water sectors and is well-versed in working with regulated utilities worldwide.
James credits his work with WaterStart, including an initial pilot project with the Las Vegas Valley Water District, as a crucial factor in the Syrinix’s US expansion, acquisition, and continued success.
James Dunning has been at the forefront of technological advancements that ensure efficient water distribution systems. His expertise and leadership will undoubtedly contribute significantly to WaterStart’s endeavors to address pressing water challenges and explore cutting-edge solutions.

Shaunna Berendsen – Chief Innovation Officer of Anglian Water
Shaunna Berendsen serves as the Chief Innovation Officer for Anglian Water, the largest water and water recycling company by geographical area in England and Wales. With a focus on driving innovation and sustainability, Shaunna brings her extensive industry knowledge and expertise to WaterStart’s mission. Her unique perspective and leadership skills will prove invaluable in shaping the future of water management.
Prior to her work at Anglian Water, Shaunna was the client program director for the establishment of the UK Water Innovation Centre of Excellence, Spring. She has previously worked in commercialization, marketing, and IP and is also a sustainability ambassador for the Major Projects Association.
With successful collaboration between Anglian Water and WaterStart, including a pilot project that resulted in a valuable long-term partnership and new opportunities still being explored, Shaunna has experienced the unique opportunities that WaterStart offers utility and technology companies.
